ISLAMABAD – July 31, 2025
In a move aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and easing travel for citizens, the federal government has announced an increase in the number of flights operating between Karachi and Gwadar.
According to officials, two additional flights on the route have been approved following the efforts of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry. The new Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) services are expected to begin in the first week of August.
“Air connectivity plays a vital role in driving commercial and economic activity,” the minister said in a statement. “Until now, only one flight was operating on this route, which was clearly not enough. This expansion is an important step forward.”
Chaudhry added that the decision reflects Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s business-friendly vision, particularly with regard to the development of Gwadar and its Free Zones. “Improved air access is essential for the region’s growth and supports our broader goal of turning Gwadar into a regional trade hub,” he noted.
The minister emphasized that better air travel options would benefit not just the local business community but also port workers and the logistics sector. “This move will encourage investment, facilitate trade, and help ensure the timely execution of projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” he said. Calling it a “new chapter” in Gwadar’s economic progress, Chaudhry expressed hope that increased connectivity would help unlock the port city’s full potential in the months to come
