THESE Karachi areas to face water shortage today due to KE shutdown

KARACHI: K-Electric has begun maintenance work at the Dhabeji Grid and Substation, which is expected to disrupt water supply in several parts of Karachi, according to a spokesperson from the Water Corporation.

The spokesperson confirmed that the power shutdown will last for 9 hours, during which partial power suspension to multiple feeders at the Dhabeji Pumping Station has been reported.

As a result, the city is expected to face a shortfall of 85 million gallons of water, potentially affecting the daily supply to many key areas in Karachi.

Water supply will be reduced in several neighborhoods, including Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Bin Qasim, DHA, and North Nazimabad, the spokesperson added.

The Karachi Water Corporation has urged citizens to use water cautiously during this period and assured that supply will return to normal once KE’s maintenance is completed at the Dhabeji facility.

Earlier, K-Electric confirmed that power at the Pipri Pumping Station was restored as per the scheduled maintenance plan.

A KE spokesperson stated that the planned maintenance shutdown was pre-notified and conducted in coordination with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) to ensure minimal disruption to water pumping operations.

The spokesperson emphasized that infrastructure maintenance is critical for delivering consistent and reliable power across Karachi.

K-Electric also noted that its technical teams worked closely with the Water Board throughout the process to streamline operations and prevent extended outages.

Previously, a major fault at the Dhabeji Pumping Station caused a shortfall of nearly 100 million gallons of water due to a power breakdown.

  1. It’s so unfortunate for the residents of the country’s largest city to repeatedly be deprived of the already meagre quantity of water that they receive. It’s either pipeline bursts or power breakdowns. Now it’s a maintenance issue.
We keep hearing of efforts to resolve the issue but hardly see any results 😢.

    1. Unfortunately Nayyar,We know exactly how you feel. Living here, we’ve all had those days where you turn the tap and nothing comes out — and it’s beyond frustrating. It’s not just about water; it’s about dignity and basic living.
We’ve been hearing promises for years, and we get why it’s hard to believe things will change. But deep down karachites still hold on to the hope that if enough of us keep raising our voices, pushing the authorities, and supporting community efforts, we will see improvement.

We deserve better, and we can’t stop demanding it. You’re not alone in this — we’re all in the same fight.💚💚💚
