Imran Khan Held in ‘Really Poor Conditions’, Says Son Kasim Khan

RAWALPINDI – July 31, 2025

Kasim Khan, son of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, has raised serious concerns about his father’s prison conditions, claiming he is being held in “really poor” and worsening circumstances at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

In a recent interview with U.S. broadcaster Real America’s Voice, Kasim painted a grim picture of the situation, stating that his father remains confined in a solitary cell with limited access to sunlight. “Right now he’s in really, really poor conditions, and it looks like they’re getting worse by the moment,” he said.

Kasim revealed that Imran is reportedly allowed only two hours of daylight per day, spends the rest of his time in isolation, and is forced to bathe in muddy water. “The cell he’s in is awful, quite frankly. Ten inmates have died due to filthy conditions. At one point, he went 10 days without any light in his cell,” he claimed, calling it a “torture tactic.”

Imran Khan has been behind bars since August 2023 and is currently serving a sentence related to the £190 million corruption case. He is also facing multiple pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) stemming from the May 9 protests that erupted following his arrest.

Kasim expressed frustration over being cut off from communication with his father. “We’re not able to speak to him at all,” he said, adding that both he and his brother, Sulaiman Khan, are seeking international support for a resolution. “We’re looking to America at the moment. It seems like that might be the only route out right now.”

During a recent visit to the United States, Kasim shared that he had a detailed discussion with Richard Grenell, a senior advisor to former President Donald Trump. “He was very kind to spend some time with us. I don’t want to get into details, but I’m very hopeful from that meeting,” Kasim said.

The remarks from Imran Khan’s son come amid growing international scrutiny over the treatment of political prisoners in Pakistan and add a personal dimension to the unfolding political and legal drama surrounding the former premier.
