KARACHI – Skywatchers in Pakistan are in for a celestial treat as the first supermoon of the season will grace the skies on the night of October 7, according to an announcement by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
The spectacular lunar event will begin at 8:47 PM, when the moon rises from the east and sets in the west. Astronomers say the supermoon will appear 6.6% larger and around 13% brighter than an ordinary full moon, offering a breathtaking view for stargazers across the country.
Adding to the beauty of the night, the planet Saturn will be visible near the moon appearing to its left on October 6 and 7, SUPARCO confirmed.
This will be the first of several supermoons expected this year, marking the start of what experts are calling an “extraordinary lunar season” for 2025. Two more supermoons are anticipated to follow one on November 5 and another on December 5 with the brightest and closest set to occur in November, when the moon will come within 357,344 kilometers (221,817 miles) of Earth.
Astronomy enthusiasts and photographers across Pakistan are eagerly awaiting the rare display, which promises a dazzling reminder of the natural wonders visible right above us no telescope required.
