Pakistan Not Engaged in Any Arms Race with India: DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD – Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has emphasized that Pakistan is not engaged in any arms race with India, reiterating that the country’s defense priorities are rooted in strategy, efficiency, and indigenous capability rather than competition.

In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg, the DG ISPR highlighted the strong performance of Pakistan’s modern weapon systems including several advanced Chinese platforms integrated into the armed forces during Operation Marka-e-Haq, which demonstrated the country’s defensive strength and operational readiness.

Lt. Gen. Chaudhry noted that Pakistan’s military development strategy focuses on acquiring effective, reliable, and locally produced technology to ensure national security without excessive spending or escalation. “Our goal has never been to outmatch others in numbers, but to maintain credible deterrence through innovation and preparedness,” he stated.

He further clarified that Pakistan remains transparent about its defense capabilities and has never attempted to manipulate or conceal facts or figures. Responding to claims from across the border, he added that India failed to shoot down any Pakistani aircraft during the recent Marka-e-Haq operation a point that, according to him, underscores the professionalism and precision of Pakistan’s armed forces.

Lt. Gen. Chaudhry’s remarks reflect Islamabad’s continued stance on maintaining a balanced defense posture, emphasizing peace, stability, and self-reliance over rivalry or aggression.
