Russia Steps Up Attacks on Ukraine; 28 Dead, Over 150 Injured in Kyiv Drone Strikes

Kyiv – August 1, 2025:
Russia has launched yet another devastating assault on Ukraine, with at least 28 people reported dead following a wave of drone attacks that struck the capital, Kyiv, late last night.

According to international news reports, more than 150 people have been injured, including 16 children, as emergency crews continue to sift through the rubble. The Ukrainian government has confirmed that a 2-year-old child is among those who lost their lives.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviredenko condemned the strikes as “deliberate and brutal,” adding that rescue operations are still underway in several heavily damaged residential areas.

This latest round of violence comes amid rising international pressure to bring the conflict to an end. Former U.S. President Donald Trump—who is currently leading diplomatic efforts on behalf of Washington—has issued an August 8 deadline for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, Trump warned that the United States will impose fresh economic sanctions on Russia if significant progress toward ending the war isn’t made within ten days. “The time for peace is now,” he said. “If Moscow fails to engage constructively, we will have no choice but to respond economically.”

The U.S. has also presented a formal message at the United Nations, urging both sides to immediately return to the negotiating table. American diplomat John Kelly addressed the Security Council, stating that a ceasefire and long-term peace must be prioritized, and that diplomatic channels remain open.

Despite these calls, Russian forces have ramped up their military operations. Analysts suggest the timing of this intensified campaign may be a direct response to Trump’s imposed deadline, signaling Moscow’s reluctance to bow to external pressure.

For the people of Kyiv, the situation remains grim. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and emergency services are operating around the clock. Local officials have called for international aid, particularly medical support and shelter for those displaced by the latest attacks.

As tensions rise and the death toll mounts, the world watches closely to see whether diplomatic efforts can halt the bloodshed—or if an even deadlier phase of the conflict lies ahead.
