US Temporarily Restricts Officials from Visiting High-End Hotels in Karachi Amid Security Threat

Washington – August 2, 2025:
In response to a credible threat, the United States has imposed temporary restrictions on its government personnel, barring them from visiting upscale hotels in Karachi, Pakistan. The move comes after the US Consulate General in Karachi received intelligence regarding a potential risk targeting these establishments.

In a security advisory issued on Friday, the US State Department confirmed the development, stating:

“The US Consulate General Karachi received a report of a threat directed at high-end hotels in Karachi. As a precautionary measure, official US government personnel have been temporarily restricted from visiting these locations.”

It is not uncommon for the State Department to impose such restrictions on its staff when security concerns arise. Depending on the nature of the threat, access to public places such as hotels, markets, shopping centers, and popular tourist spots is sometimes limited to ensure the safety of American personnel abroad.

The advisory also urged American citizens in Karachi to exercise heightened caution, avoid crowded areas, keep a low profile, and remain vigilant—particularly in places frequented by foreigners and Western visitors.

At present, the US State Department maintains a travel advisory for Pakistan, encouraging US citizens to reconsider non-essential travel to the country due to safety and security concerns.
