Punjab authorities have launched an extensive crackdown on Afghan nationals living in the province without valid documentation, announcing a cash reward of Rs. 10,000 for citizens who report such individuals.
Officials say the incentive aims to encourage the public to share information about Afghan residents who are staying without legal permission or using forged identity papers. The campaign targets a range of violations, including those living without proper documents, individuals possessing fake or tampered CNICs, and Afghan nationals running businesses illegally. Authorities have also warned that anyone assisting these activities will face legal consequences.
Police officials have assured the public that the identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential, hoping this added layer of protection will give people the confidence to come forward.
The government has also issued strict instructions for landlords, shopkeepers, and property owners, emphasizing that renting out spaces to Afghan nationals without verifying their documents will result in action. Officials believe strong cooperation from citizens is crucial for the success of the operation.
According to the provincial administration, arrests have risen sharply in recent weeks. Many Afghan nationals have already been detained, while others have been deported for failing to meet the legal requirements for residency in Pakistan.
Authorities say the new reward system is expected to speed up the operation and make it far more effective.
