Retired Colonel Found Dead After Islamabad Flood Incident; Daughter Still Missing

The body of retired Colonel Qazi Ishaq was recovered on Thursday after nearly a week of intensive search efforts, following an incident in which his car was swept away by powerful floodwaters in Rawalpindi. His daughter, who was with him during the tragedy, remains missing.

The incident occurred when their car was caught in the strong current of a seasonal stream connecting Sector 4 and Phase 7 of a private housing society in Islamabad. Eyewitnesses say both the father and daughter signaled for help, but the force of the water made rescue impossible.

A joint operation involving the Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122, PDMA, and other emergency units was launched immediately. After two days of continuous efforts, rescuers discovered the car’s door and bonnet under the Soan River bridge—the point where the vehicle is believed to have disappeared.

On Thursday, Colonel Ishaq’s body was found beneath that same bridge. The search for his daughter is ongoing, with teams concentrating on deeper areas of the river as water levels begin to drop.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued warnings of further rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan over the next 12 hours.

Heavy rain is especially expected in upper KP, the Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Punjab, raising the risk of local flooding. Southern parts of the country, however, will continue to see hot and humid weather.
