As the PlayStation 5 approaches its five-year mark, rumors about Sony’s next-generation console — the highly anticipated PlayStation 6 — are beginning to surface. A recent leak, discussed in a YouTube video by tech insider Moore’s Law is Dead, claims that the PS6 could deliver a dramatic performance leap over its predecessor — potentially offering three times the rendering power of the PS5 — all while maintaining the same starting price of $499.
The video cites what is described as a leaked internal AMD presentation from 2023, reportedly shared with Sony during the early planning stages of the PS6. While it’s crucial to treat such claims with skepticism — as details could have changed over the last two years — the information has certainly piqued the interest of gaming enthusiasts.
According to the leak, Sony is aiming to boost performance without increasing power consumption, suggesting a major focus on efficiency and cost control. The PS6 is said to outperform the standard PS5 by a factor of three in rasterization performance — essentially the system’s ability to render 3D graphics in real time — and even double what’s expected from the upcoming PS5 Pro.
One of the more exciting possibilities mentioned is full backward compatibility, with support for both PS4 and PS5 titles, a feature that would be warmly welcomed by longtime PlayStation fans. Pair that with a potential $499 launch price, and Sony could be hoping to recapture the same momentum the PS4 enjoyed in its early days — when affordability and power helped it outpace the competition.

Both the PS6 and its companion handheld are reportedly on track for mass production starting mid-2027, with a possible launch window between late 2027 and early 2028. While Sony hasn’t confirmed any of these details, the leak has certainly sparked speculation — and excitement — across the gaming community.
