Overseas Pakistanis to Be Recognized as Filers, Says Ishaq Dar

NEW YORK – Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has assured that Pakistanis living abroad will be recognized as filers by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), a step aimed at easing their banking and business transactions.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly renovated service area at Pakistan’s Consulate General in New York, Dar said the refurbishment had given the building “a new life,” reaffirming its role as a second home for the Pakistani diaspora.

He stressed that the primary responsibility of Pakistan’s missions abroad is to provide dignified and effective services to overseas citizens. “Overseas Pakistanis are our pride, partners in national development, and the real ambassadors of the country,” he remarked.

Outlining new measures, Dar said the government is setting up special courts to resolve property disputes involving overseas Pakistanis. He also announced that video-link testimony would be introduced to spare expatriates the need to travel back home for legal proceedings. In addition, applications and essential documents will soon be accepted online.

The deputy prime minister highlighted other initiatives, including a dedicated quota for the children of overseas Pakistanis in universities and medical colleges. He added that Overseas Facilitation Centers have already been established in Punjab and Balochistan, while the long-awaited Green Channel service is being restored at airports.

Dar emphasized that these reforms reflect the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the diaspora and ensuring they remain connected to the country’s progress.
