Overseas Pakistanis Send Record $3.2B in July 2025

KARACHI — Pakistan recorded $3.21 billion in workers’ remittances in July 2025, a 7.4% increase from $2.99 billion in July 2024, according to provisional data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The surge is attributed to over two million Pakistani workers abroad, many of whom migrated due to political and economic uncertainty at home.

Compared to July 2023, the inflows jumped 47.6%, showing a significant recovery in overseas transfers over two years. The growth was mainly fueled by higher inflows from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the UK, and the European Union.

Saudi Arabia led with $823.7 million, up 8.4% year-on-year, followed by the UAE with $665.2 million, rising 8.8%. Within the UAE, Abu Dhabi posted a 37% surge, while Dubai dropped 3.1%. Other GCC countries brought in $296 million, with Oman up 7.1% and Kuwait down 11.1% to $62.5 million.

The UK sent $450.4 million, a 1.6% rise, and the EU collectively sent $424.4 million, a 21% jump — including Italy (+23.6%), Spain (+35.7%), and Ireland (+48%).

However, notable declines came from the US (-10.2% to $269.6 million), Malaysia (-17%), Japan (-7.5%), and South Korea (-9.7%).

Economists warn that Pakistan’s remittance base is heavily concentrated in a few markets, making it vulnerable to shocks in those economies. They urge diversification and upskilling of workers.

SBP’s data shows July’s inflows were slightly above the FY26 monthly average, marking the highest-ever July figure in Pakistan’s history.
