KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted another spell of rainfall for Karachi on Thursday, as the ongoing monsoon system continues to grip the city.
According to officials, the wind pattern over the metropolis shifted to a northeasterly direction on Thursday morning, blowing at a light speed of around four kilometers per hour. The weather system is expected to generate intermittent showers in various parts of the city, with heavy to very heavy falls likely in some localities. The current wet spell may persist until August 22, the forecast added.
Data released by the Met Office showed that Orangi Town recorded the highest downpour on Wednesday with 113mm of rain, while Sharae Faisal received 43mm, Korangi 35.6mm, and Keamari 31mm. University Road and PAF Masroor Base registered 24mm each, Defence Phase V saw 20mm, Saadi Town 15.9mm, and Gulshan-e-Maymar reported the lowest with 6.8mm.
The PMD has further cautioned that widespread rainfall with scattered heavy showers is expected across Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tando Allahyar, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Sanghar districts between August 19 and 22. Similar conditions are also likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, and Jacobabad.
Meanwhile, several districts of Balochistan including Gwadar, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Kech, Panjgur, Zhob, Barkhan, and Loralai have also been placed on alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms during the same period.
