KARACHI: Prolonged power outages across Karachi have broken all previous records, leaving citizens frustrated and helpless. Despite the passage of several days since the recent spell of heavy rains, electricity in many neighborhoods has yet to be fully restored.
According to details, K-Electric’s transmission system continues to struggle, with multiple feeder, PMT, and underground cable faults still unresolved. The situation persists despite repeated assurances given to NEPRA by the power utility.
Large parts of the city, including Moinabad, Model Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Surjani, Scheme 33, and Gadap, have been suffering outages stretching for long hours. In some areas, residents said electricity was restored after five days only to be cut off again.
Model Colony, Moinabad, Amirabad, and Siddiqabad were among the hardest-hit neighborhoods, where power was suspended again last night. Locals complained that the blackout since midnight has paralyzed daily life, disrupting household routines, businesses, and even access to clean water.
Meanwhile, areas like Meerut Society and Shadman 14-B in Scheme 33 are facing relentless load shedding, forcing many to rely on generators and UPS systems. Citizens have staged protests, strongly criticizing both K-Electric and the city administration, and demanding immediate intervention to restore electricity on an urgent basis.
