Karachi faces over 26,500 crimes in five months

KARACHI: Over the past five months, Karachi’s people have struggled with rising crime. Robbers, extortionists, and armed gangs have caused serious trouble during this period.

Data shows that authorities recorded more than 26,500 crimes from January to May 2025 in the city.

Out of these, violence claimed the lives of 245 individuals through targeted killings, street crimes, or armed attacks.

, criminals shot and killed 48 people during robberies when victims tried to resist.

The rising numbers have sparked worry about safety in the city and how well the police are doing their job.

Police data shows motorcycle theft and snatching remain a big issue, with over 17,994 cases logged. The Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) mentioned more than 684 reports of stolen or snatched cars and other vehicles. People also filed over 6,489 complaints of stolen mobile phones. The CPLC shared that 11 cases of ransom kidnapping happened over five months. In the same period, 32 extortion cases came to light showing how organized crime operates in the city
