Islamabad, September 12, 2025 — In what is being hailed as a breakthrough for Pakistan’s engineering community, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has signed a landmark agreement with leading Chinese companies to train and upgrade the skills of Pakistani engineers.
The accords were finalized during a business-to-business conference held alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to China. The Chinese signatories include Thar Coal Block 1 Power Generation Company, Sino Sindh Resources, and Shanghai Electric Engineering Consulting Company.
Under the partnership, Pakistani engineers will undergo hands-on training through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. A total of 100 engineers will receive training on the Thar Coal Project over the next five years. The program also envisions sending Pakistani engineers to China for advanced training in the energy sector.
To support young talent, a scholarship fund worth Rs 350 million has been established. Over a five-year span, 175 deserving students will receive financial support, while engineers will also gain access to online Chinese language courses to strengthen communication and collaboration with their counterparts.
PEC Chairman Engineer Wasim Nazir welcomed the agreement, calling it a “milestone for practical training and professional growth.” He said the initiative would give Pakistani engineers valuable international exposure and create opportunities to learn new technologies as well as the Chinese language.
“This agreement is not just about skills,” Nazir added. “It opens new career paths for our engineers and directly contributes to Pakistan’s long-term energy and industrial needs.”
The deal is being viewed as a significant step forward in bridging Pakistan’s engineering workforce with global best practices, while also strengthening technical cooperation under CPEC.
