Dubai: The Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash between India and Pakistan has taken a dramatic turn off the pitch, with two Pakistani players, Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan, reportedly under investigation following a complaint lodged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to sources, the BCCI formally wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) earlier this week, raising objections to what it described as “inappropriate gestures” made during the high-intensity encounter. The complaint, submitted via email, claims the players’ conduct went against the spirit of the game.
Haris Rauf first drew attention while fielding on the boundary line. Witnesses allege he made hand signals that were interpreted by some as referencing past military tensions, particularly at a moment when Indian fans were chanting Virat Kohli’s name. The act quickly divided opinion online, with critics calling it provocative while others dismissed it as overblown.
Sahibzada Farhan also sparked controversy after reaching his half-century. Instead of a standard celebration, he shaped his bat as though firing a gun, a gesture that many Pakistani fans hailed as passionate but which some Indian supporters and officials viewed as unnecessarily aggressive in a high-stakes contest.
So far, the ICC has not issued an official statement on the matter. However, insiders suggest that veteran match referee Richie Richardson may review the incidents if the players contest the allegations, potentially leading to a formal disciplinary hearing.
For now, the debate continues among fans on both sides of the border: were the gestures simply playful expressions of emotion, or did they cross the line in cricket’s fiercest rivalry? Whatever the outcome, the controversy has added yet another layer to the charged atmosphere that always surrounds an India–Pakistan clash.
