RAWALPINDI – Azerbaijan has conferred its highest military decoration, the “Patriotic War Medal,” on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening defense ties between the two nations. The medal was awarded by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and presented in Rawalpindi by Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Karim Valiyev.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Colonel General Valiyev met Field Marshal Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ), where the two discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional and global security environment, and ways to expand defense cooperation.
During the meeting, the army chief reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its longstanding and exemplary relations with Azerbaijan and congratulated Baku on the peaceful resolution of its conflict with Armenia. The Azerbaijani deputy defense minister, in turn, lauded the professional excellence of Pakistan’s armed forces, as well as their successes in operations such as the Battle of Haq and Operation Banyan Marsus.
Both sides agreed to continue joint efforts aimed at promoting regional stability and advancing military collaboration.
Presenting the award, Colonel General Valiyev commended Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged its constructive role in regional peace. Upon his arrival at GHQ, the visiting dignitary was accorded a guard of honor by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army.
