SSGC Cancels Planned Gas Outage for Karachi’s District West on August 14

KARACHI — In a relief for residents and businesses, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced on Wednesday that it will not suspend gas supply in Karachi’s District West on August 14, reversing an earlier plan for a 14-hour shutdown.

Earlier this week, the utility had notified consumers of an outage scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., which was to affect several neighborhoods including Haroonabad SITE Area, Sher Shah, SITE, Jehanabad, Mianwali Colony, Lashari Mohalla, Metroville, Bawani Chali, Pathan Colony, Old Golimar, Rexer Colony, Hasan Oliya, and Muslimabad. Industrial hubs such as the SITE Industrial Area, Gulbai, Mauripur, Tikri Village, and Muslim Colony were also on the list.

The suspension had been planned to facilitate the relocation of a gas pipeline at the request of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB). However, officials confirmed that KWSB’s pipeline restoration work has been postponed, making the gas shutdown unnecessary.

An SSGC spokesperson said the decision was taken to ensure uninterrupted gas supply for consumers during the Independence Day holiday. “The statement issued on Tuesday regarding the suspension should now be treated as cancelled,” the spokesperson added.
