Fake Currency Network Busted: Rs 6 Million Worth of Counterfeit Notes Recovered in Karachi

Karachi: In a major breakthrough against counterfeit currency operations, police in Karachi have arrested a suspect accused of transporting fake notes worth Rs 6 million into the city. The arrest has led to startling revelations about how the illicit trade is being carried out.

According to Gadap police, the suspect, identified as Asfand, was intercepted at the Gadap Toll Plaza three days ago while attempting to smuggle a large quantity of forged currency. During interrogation, Asfand confessed that he had traveled from Peshawar to Karachi specifically to deliver the counterfeit money.

He disclosed that fake notes worth Rs 100,000 are procured in Darra Adam Khel for just Rs 16,000 to Rs 17,000, while couriers like him earn a commission of Rs 2,000 per packet delivered. This time, he claimed, he was tasked with transporting fake notes valued at Rs 6 million, for which he was promised Rs 100,000.

The accused further revealed that he makes monthly trips to Karachi to deliver counterfeit currency on behalf of a local dealer. He added that the fake notes are mostly distributed in Karachi and Multan. In Karachi, a dealer identified as Shahid reportedly supplies the notes to another individual known as Baba.

Police said a significant amount of counterfeit currency was seized from Asfand’s possession at the time of arrest. A formal case has been registered against him, and authorities have launched a wider investigation to trace other members of the network.
