Renowned television actress Ayesha Khan, whose powerful performances once lit up Pakistan Television screens, passed away in Karachi on Thursday. She was 76.
Born in 1948, Ayesha Khan was a beloved figure in the golden era of Pakistani dramas. With a career spanning over five decades, she brought unforgettable characters to life in classics like Afshan, Uroosa, Aanch, Bandhan, and Shaam Se Pehle. Her roles left a lasting impression on audiences who grew up watching her on screen.
One of her most iconic performances was in Afshan, where she portrayed a heartbroken yet strong woman left behind during the Partition. As her husband and brother fled the country for their safety, her character took on the responsibility of raising both her child and her brother’s daughter, Afshan. It was a deeply emotional role that showcased her depth and skill as an actress.
Ayesha Khan was admired for her soulful dialogue delivery and expressive acting. She had an unmatched ability to convey powerful emotions with subtle expressions—a talent that made her a household name.
She was also the elder sister of the late actress Khalida Riasat, another legendary name in Pakistani drama history. The two sisters shared not just a bond of blood but also a shared legacy in the arts.
In her later years, Ayesha Khan stepped away from the spotlight due to health issues. Reflecting on her passing, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Ahmed Shah, said, “She acted for more than 50 years. Her death is a tremendous loss for the drama world of Pakistan.”
A shining star of PTV’s golden age, Ayesha Khan leaves behind a legacy of strength, emotion, and timeless performances. May she rest in peace.
