Trump Warns Canada Over Palestinian Recognition, Issues Ultimatum to Russia

WASHINGTON – August 1, 2025:
In a sharp warning laced with both personal sentiment and policy threats, U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that Canada will be treated “the same way it chooses to treat others,” referencing Ottawa’s recent stance on the Palestinian state.

Speaking at a press event after signing a new executive order related to international tariffs, Trump said, “I love Canada. I have many friends there. But the United States has always protected Canada — and now, it’s about how they choose to act.”

The former and now returning president expressed his disapproval over Canada’s move to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state, calling it a decision he “did not like.” While he added that Ottawa’s position isn’t a “deal breaker,” Trump hinted that it could influence ongoing and future trade arrangements between the two nations.

The President’s remarks come amid a flurry of shifting diplomatic postures, particularly in the Middle East and Europe.

Russia Given Deadline to End War

Turning his attention to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Trump issued a stern deadline to Moscow, giving Russian leadership until August 8 to take serious steps toward ending the war — or face further U.S. tariffs.

“What Russia is doing is unacceptable. Thousands of soldiers are dying — 7,000 every week. This war must stop now,” Trump declared.

He described the toll of the war as “tragic and unnecessary,” calling on Russian leadership to show a genuine commitment to ending hostilities. The additional sanctions, if imposed, would significantly tighten the economic noose already straining Russia’s financial and trade networks.

Middle East and Gaza Concerns

Trump also touched on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing the situation as “horrific.” He said the United States recently sent $60 million in aid for food relief, though, in his words, “no one thanked us.”

“The situation in Gaza is not good. We’re trying to help — but the world needs to step up too,” he added, pointing to his recent Middle East tour where he met with several key regional leaders.

“Every leader I met told me the same thing — they said ‘America was dead a year ago.’ Not anymore.”
