Trump Praises PM Shehbaz and ‘Favourite’ Field Marshal Asim Munir for Role in Gaza Peace Deal

In a rare diplomatic acknowledgment, US President Donald Trump lauded Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their active role in facilitating the Gaza peace agreement, calling it a “historic moment for global stability.”

Speaking at a press conference in Sharm El Sheikh on Monday following the signing of the Gaza Peace Agreement, President Trump extended warm praise to several world leaders and singled out the Pakistani leadership for their efforts. Referring to Pakistan’s army chief, Trump said with a smile, “My favourite Field Marshal,” drawing attention to the deep collaboration behind the peace initiative. He later invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to share his thoughts on the achievement.

Taking the podium, Shehbaz Sharif described the day as “one of the greatest in modern history,” crediting Trump for his tireless dedication to ending conflict in Gaza. “President Trump is genuinely a man of peace,” the prime minister remarked. “He has worked relentlessly, day and night, to make this world a place of stability, compassion, and prosperity.”

Sharif went on to recall Pakistan’s earlier nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his efforts to de-escalate tensions between Pakistan and India. “Once again, I would like to nominate this great President for the Nobel Peace Prize,” he declared. “He has saved millions of lives in South Asia and now in the Middle East. His commitment to peace makes him the most deserving candidate.”

The prime minister praised Trump’s “visionary leadership” and said the world would remember him as the man who “did everything in his power to prevent wars and bring peace where it seemed impossible.”

Reflecting on past crises, Shehbaz noted, “Had President Trump and his team not intervened, the situation between India and Pakistan could have spiraled into a catastrophic conflict. Both nations are nuclear powers and today, the world should be grateful for the restraint achieved through dialogue.”

Sharif also commended the contributions of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Emir of Qatar, President of Türkiye, King Abdullah of Jordan, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, and the leadership of the United Arab Emirates for their “valuable roles in making peace a reality in Gaza and the broader region.”

Concluding his remarks, the prime minister said, “Mr President, I salute your courage and your vision. You are truly the leader the world needs the most today. May God bless you and grant you the strength to continue serving humanity.”

The Gaza peace accord, hailed as a breakthrough after months of negotiations, marks a significant step toward restoring stability in the Middle East with Pakistan’s leadership earning rare international recognition for its behind-the-scenes diplomacy.
