Trump Likely to Visit Pakistan in September, Local Media Reports

ISLAMABAD – July 17: Former U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to make a high-profile visit to Pakistan this September, according to reports aired by two major Pakistani television networks on Thursday. The visit, if officially confirmed, would mark the first by an American president in nearly two decades.

Citing unnamed diplomatic sources, the broadcasters claimed Trump’s itinerary includes a stop in Islamabad, followed by a visit to India. The development, though still unconfirmed by U.S. or Pakistani officials, is already generating considerable buzz in political and diplomatic circles.

The potential trip comes on the heels of a rare and closely-watched meeting between Trump and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House last month. The encounter, seen by many as unprecedented, signaled a renewed warmth in U.S.-Pakistan ties, which have historically seen periods of both cooperation and tension.

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for the U.S. embassy in Islamabad told Reuters, “We have nothing to announce at this time,” adding that any official details about the president’s travel schedule would likely come from the White House. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information also remained tight-lipped, offering no response to inquiries from the press.

If finalized, the visit would be the first by a sitting or former U.S. president since George W. Bush touched down in Pakistan in 2006—a visit that came amid the height of the U.S.-led war on terror.

Meanwhile, India is preparing to host this year’s summit of the Quad alliance, comprising the U.S., India, Australia, and Japan. The grouping, formed to counter China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific, has not yet announced dates for the summit, though speculation is growing that Trump’s visit could be timed to coincide with the high-level meeting.

While officials on both sides remain guarded about the details, insiders suggest that backchannel diplomacy is in full swing, and a formal announcement could follow once logistical and security matters are ironed out.
