Teen Killed in Scuffle Over Girl’s Profile Picture in Karachi

What began as a petty argument among friends turned tragic on Sunday, when a 17-year-old boy lost his life during a scuffle near Guru Mandir, reportedly over a girl’s profile picture.

According to police, the incident took place outside a restaurant near Kanzul Iman Mosque, where seven teenagers had gathered. An argument broke out between two of them — Manan Ali and Abdullah — after a photo of Abdullah’s girlfriend was reportedly found on Manan’s phone.

As tensions escalated, 17-year-old Abdul Rehman stepped in to defuse the situation. But instead of calming down, the confrontation turned physical. Witnesses said Manan shoved Rehman, who lost his balance, fell backward, and struck his head on the iron handle of a parked motorcycle. He died on the spot from the impact.

Police from the Jamshed Quarters station arrived shortly after the incident was reported and took six boys into custody: Talha Mohammed, Hasan alias Arif (a cousin of the deceased), Abdullah, Faraz Sattar, Manan Ali, and Moiz Mohammed.

Rehman’s body was shifted to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

Speaking to reporters, SHO Anser Ahmed Butt confirmed that the argument was rooted in suspicions over the girl’s picture, and that the fatal push came from Manan during the heat of the moment. “It was a senseless loss of life over something so trivial,” he said.

In a separate case the same day, police claimed to have arrested two men for allegedly murdering a police constable in North Karachi and setting his body on fire to hide the crime. Investigators believe the motive was personal enmity, though the case remains under investigation.
