Shia Scholars, Sindh IGP Pledge Joint Efforts for Peaceful Muharram

KARACHI: Ahead of Muharram, Sindh’s Inspector General of Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, met with prominent Shia scholars at the Central Police Office on Monday to review security arrangements. Scholars and senior officers from Sukkur and Larkana also joined the session via video link.

During the meeting, Shia scholars expressed full confidence in the police’s preparations and assured their complete cooperation. They pledged that community volunteers would work alongside law enforcement during Muharram processions and gatherings to help ensure safety and order.

The scholars also praised the Pakistan Army’s role in defending the country, particularly acknowledging the success of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. Prayers were offered for national security and unity.

IGP Memon, while appreciating the longstanding cooperation between the Shia community and police, urged everyone to remain alert and not fall prey to any rumors or mischief during these sensitive days. “Terrorism has been defeated before, and we will continue our fight against it,” he said.

He stressed that police, security agencies, and other departments are working round the clock to maintain peace, but added that given the current global climate, everyone needs to be extra vigilant. He advised immediate reporting of any suspicious activity and encouraged religious leaders from all sects to play a positive and unifying role.

“We can make this Muharram peaceful and safe if we stand together,” IG Memon said.
