Regional Issues and Safety Concerns Stall Starlink’s Launch in Pakistan

Starlink’s arrival in Pakistan faces delays because of regional conflicts and growing safety risks, according to reports from local media.

SpaceX run by Elon Musk, got a temporary NOC in March 2025. However, it has not yet received approval to start full commercial operations due to ongoing security and regulatory challenges.

Reports pointed out that talks about the launch have stopped. An official speaking , stated, “Safety comes first over costly satellite internet at this time.”

Security agencies worry about cyber threats as regional tensions grow. Officials emphasize that Starlink has to meet tougher standards before it gets approved.

Starlink plans to provide fast internet using satellites in Low Earth Orbit. It promises to connect remote areas but comes with a price tag that many in Pakistan may struggle to afford.

Reports suggest the residential plan for Starlink could cost Rs 35,000 every month, with setup fees near Rs 110,000. Business users may face costs as high as Rs 95,000 monthly and a setup charge of Rs 220,000.

Local internet providers charge between Rs 2,500 and Rs 12,000 per month for fiber-based services. This makes Starlink pricing out of reach for most ordinary Pakistani users.

Starlink needs to follow the National Space Policy 2023 adhere to the Pakistan Space Activity Rules 2024, and get security approval from the Ministry of Interior to operate.

An official commented, “Starlink can enhance digital connectivity, but factors like costs, security, and compliance with policies must be considered,” according to media outlets.

Although Pakistan is still being cautious, Bangladesh has already allowed Starlink to run limited commercial operations. A June 2025 report in the Dhaka Tribune states this move is meant to expand internet access in rural areas.

Pakistan takes a cautious path as regional disputes affect its regulatory choices. Millions living in distant areas still wait to access reliable and cheap high-speed internet.
