A fast-moving dumper truck hit a vehicle on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road late Wednesday night killing a woman and a seven-year-old girl. The driver and another passenger were injured in the incident.
The crash happened near the limits of Shahrae Faisal police station when a sand-filled dumper moving , toppled and landed on a double cabin vehicle.
The double cabin, with registration number KT-9478, got crushed under the truck. Media reports say the dumper was speeding from the Malir area even though gravel transport was prohibited.
Volunteers belonging to Chhipa, Edhi, Rangers, traffic police, and Rescue 1122 hurried to the location. Authorities blocked the road stretching from Millennium Mall to Sharea Faisal for many hours while rescue teams worked.
Chhipa teams rescued the driver of the double cabin. He had minor injuries and survived. They also found a woman who was in critical condition. She was first taken to Jinnah Hospital and later moved to a private hospital situated on Stadium Road.
Officials identified the deceased as Shaheena Naeem, who was 55 years old. A seven-year-old girl named Aisha daughter of Khurram also lost her life. Anam aged 30 and part of the same family from Scheme 33, was one of the injured.
Chaudhry Shahid, who speaks for the Chhipa Foundation, said the crash took place at around 3:00 am. People at the scene told rescue volunteers the dumper driver looked drunk and ran away right after the accident.
Police mentioned the driver got away, but they are working to find him. They seized the dumper and brought it to the station to investigate further.
Even though Commissioner Karachi has restricted gravel transport from District Malir under Section 144 illegal dumper activity still seems to happen between Malir and spots like Gadap and Ghaghar Phatak. Authorities stated that speeding and careless driving led to the crash. The dumper went onto the sidewalk while trying to pass on the left, which caused the fatal accident
