Main Suspects in Karachi Defence Torture Case Get Bail

The Sindh High Court approved bail for Salman Farooqi and Owais Hashmi, the main suspects in the Defence youth torture incident.

Police had arrested the two men on charges of assaulting a young motorcyclist in Karachi’s Defence area. The court listened to their bail applications during a hearing on Wednesday morning.

The judge directed both suspects to submit surety bonds worth Rs 100,000 each.

The government lawyer informed the court that the prosecution did not oppose the bail requests of either suspect.

On June 1, a fight broke out near Khayaban-e-Ittehad Commercial in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The clash happened between a car and a motorcycle.

Police said the motorcyclist hit a car, and after that, the car’s passengers reportedly attacked him.

The incident spread on social media. People shared videos and called for justice. Many raised concerns about growing violence and VIP behavior in posh areas like DHA Karachi.

Police acted and arrested both suspects not long after the event. They filed the case at Darakhshan Police Station under several criminal sections. Officers guaranteed they are investigating further to understand all the details of the attack. They are gathering CCTV videos and accounts from witnesses to create a solid case.
