PM Shehbaz Arrives in Egypt to Attend Gaza Peace Summit

Praises Trump and El-Sisi, Calls the Event “A Crucial Step Toward Lasting Peace”

SHARM EL-SHEIKH — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Egypt on Monday to attend the high-profile Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, where world leaders are set to sign the Gaza peace agreement, a deal aimed at ending the prolonged humanitarian and security crisis in the war-ravaged Palestinian territory.

The visit comes at the joint invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, who will co-chair the summit a development being hailed as a turning point in Middle East diplomacy.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister took to X (formerly Twitter) to express optimism about the historic nature of the gathering.

“Alhamdolillah, arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh this morning to attend the signing ceremony of the landmark Gaza peace plan a crucial step towards lasting peace in the Middle East,” he posted.

Shehbaz praised both President Trump and President El-Sisi for their diplomatic efforts, saying,

“Grateful to our co-hosts, President El-Sisi and President Trump. We would not have seen this moment without President Trump’s outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment.”

He went on to describe the summit as “the closing of a genocidal chapter one that the international community must ensure is never repeated anywhere again.”

Reaffirming Pakistan’s long-standing stance, the premier said that the Palestinian people have the right to live freely in an independent Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

According to the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other senior cabinet members, is accompanying the prime minister on this official visit.

The Sharm El-Sheikh Summit also referred to as the Gaza Peace Accords signing ceremony marks the culmination of intense diplomatic negotiations launched last month on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Pakistan, alongside Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, and Turkiye, actively participated in those engagements, which aimed to broker a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza following two years of relentless violence.

On September 23, Prime Minister Shehbaz attended a summit-level meeting on Gaza chaired by President Trump, during which leaders from the Arab and Islamic world welcomed the US-led peace initiative.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Pakistan described the premier’s participation as a reaffirmation of its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the right of Palestinians to self-determination.

“Pakistan hopes that this summit will pave the way for a full Israeli withdrawal, the protection of Palestinian civilians, an end to displacement, and the reconstruction of Gaza,” the statement said.

It further added that Pakistan continues to back “a credible political process aimed at establishing an independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in line with UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.”

The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit is expected to conclude with the formal signing of the Gaza peace accord, signaling a potential breakthrough in efforts to restore stability and hope to a region that has endured years of bloodshed and despair.
