Karachi — In a major development for Pakistani travelers bound for the United Kingdom, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has stepped up preparations to restart its direct flight operations.
According to sources, the national flag carrier has begun finalizing arrangements for its flight crews, including captains, engineers, and cabin staff, with accommodation plans already underway in Manchester. PIA’s spokesperson confirmed that tenders for hotel services in Manchester have been opened, and interested parties can submit applications until November 3. These applications will then be reviewed by PIA’s GM Procurement in the supply chain division.
This move follows the green light granted to PIA last week, allowing the airline to operate flights to the UK after a prolonged suspension. Officials say that the first phase of operations will begin next month with direct flights to Manchester. Later, routes to London and Birmingham will also be added.
In addition to passenger services, PIA has also secured security and cargo certifications valid for five years, enabling the airline to carry both travelers and freight between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The resumption of these flights is expected to provide much-needed convenience for passengers who have long relied on connecting flights through other carriers.
