Pakistan Receives $3.4 Billion in Remittances in October 2025

4MFY26 Remittances Reach $12.9 Billion, Signaling Strong Support from Overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan saw an inflow of $3.4 billion in remittances from overseas Pakistanis in October 2025, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday.

This marks an increase of nearly 12% year-on-year (YoY), compared to $3.1 billion received in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, remittances rose over 7% compared to $3.2 billion in September 2025.

During the first four months of the fiscal year (4MFY26), remittance inflows totaled $12.9 billion, up from $11.9 billion in the same period last year a growth of 9.3%.

Remittances remain a crucial pillar for Pakistan’s external accounts, bolstering economic activity and supporting households that rely heavily on income from abroad. The government continues to promote the inflow of remittances through formal channels and incentives to ensure steady growth and financial stability.

Prime Minister Acknowledges Overseas Contributions

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to overseas Pakistanis for their continued support. “The gradual increase in remittances reflects the confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the government’s policies. They remain our most valuable asset,” he said.

Since 2009, the Pakistan Remittance Initiative (PRI) has been actively working to streamline remittances through formal channels. The number of financial institutions (FIs) on the PRI network has grown from about 25 in 2009 to over 50 in 2024, including conventional banks, Islamic banks, microfinance banks, and exchange companies. Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs) are also now authorized to receive home remittances through these banks. Meanwhile, the number of international entities participating in the PRI network has risen from roughly 45 in 2009 to around 400 today.

Breakdown of Remittances by Country

Overseas Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia contributed the largest share in October 2025, sending $821 million up 9% from September and 7% YoY.

Remittances from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) rose to $698 million, up 12% year-on-year from $621 million.

The United Kingdom (UK) accounted for $488 million in remittances, marking a 7% increase from September and 13% YoY.

Pakistanis in the United States sent $290 million in October 2025, showing a 4% decline YoY but an 8% increase from the previous month.

Meanwhile, inflows from European Union (EU) countries reached $457 million, recording a substantial 27% growth compared to October 2024.

The overall trends underscore the critical role of overseas Pakistanis in supporting the country’s economy and highlight the importance of maintaining strong ties with the diaspora.
