Pakistan, Afghan Taliban Continue Second Day of Peace Talks in Istanbul

Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban entered the second day of their diplomatic engagements in Istanbul, as both sides work to mend strained ties and lay the groundwork for lasting peace in the region. The discussions, hosted by Turkey, are centered on strengthening border security, easing cross-border tensions, and expanding economic cooperation between the two neighbors.

According to diplomatic sources, the dialogue focused heavily on preventing future border clashes and improving coordination along the Durand Line a longstanding friction point between the two sides. Officials stressed the need for direct communication channels to avoid misunderstandings and to ensure the safety of civilians living in border areas.

Turkey’s involvement as a mediator has been widely praised, with Ankara playing a crucial role in bringing both delegations to the table. Pakistani officials reportedly expressed optimism that these ongoing talks will help establish a foundation for long-term cooperation and mutual trust.

Economic engagement was another key focus of the discussions. Both sides explored potential avenues for trade and transit that could strengthen regional connectivity particularly through road and energy projects linking Central and South Asia.

Observers view the talks as a constructive development following months of tension and sporadic cross-border incidents. The two sides have agreed to maintain regular communication and plan to hold follow-up sessions in Doha in the coming weeks.

International stakeholders have welcomed the diplomatic progress, emphasizing that sustained dialogue is the only way forward for lasting peace and regional stability.

A senior Pakistani diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “It’s a process that requires patience and persistence. What matters is that both sides are still talking that’s where peace begins.”
