OGDCL Announces Major Gas and Condensate Discovery in Sindh

KARACHI — Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported a major breakthrough in Sindh, announcing a significant gas and condensate discovery at the Bitrism East-1 exploration well in District Khairpur.

The state-owned energy giant, which holds a 95 percent working interest in the Bitrism Exploration License, made the find in partnership with Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which owns the remaining 5 percent.

According to details, drilling at Bitrism East-1 began on June 30, 2025, and reached a depth of 3,800 meters, targeting the Sembar Formation. The operation was carried out using OGDCL’s in-house expertise, with technical collaboration from its joint venture partner.

Two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were conducted in the Lower Goru Formation’s Massive and Basal Sands, both yielding promising results. The well demonstrated a combined flow potential of 22.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 690 barrels per day (BCD) of condensate at a 32/64-inch choke.

Officials said the discovery marks an important addition to OGDCL’s portfolio and Pakistan’s indigenous hydrocarbon reserves, strengthening the country’s energy security at a time of rising demand.

“The successful results from Bitrism East-1 will not only enhance OGDCL’s resource base but also play a vital role in bridging the supply-demand gap through domestic production,” a company statement noted.

This new find adds to a series of recent discoveries made by OGDCL, underlining its role as the leading contributor to Pakistan’s oil and gas sector.
