Nine killed in Chakwal road mishap

A passenger bus overturned on the M-2 Motorway in Chakwal on Sunday, killing nine passengers and injuring 31 others. The bus was carrying over 40 passengers and the crash occurred near the Balkasar Interchange in the Dhoke Sial area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, registration number JA-6871, was en route from Islamabad to Lahore when one of its tyres burst due to overspeeding. The impact of the accident was so severe that eight people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during transfer to the hospital, raising the death toll to nine.

Rescue 1122 teams responded quickly, providing first aid and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Rescue officials cited speeding, negligence, and driver carelessness as the primary causes of the accident.

Chakwal police also arrived promptly. According to a police spokesperson, the injured included 17 men and 14 women. Among the deceased were two men, four women, an eight-year-old boy, a two-year-old girl, and an eight-month-old infant.

All the injured and deceased were taken to Chakwal’s District Headquarters Hospital and the Trauma Centre in Kallar Kahar. Chakwal Deputy Commissioner Madam Sarah Hayat and District Police Officer Lt (retd) Ahmad Mohiuddin visited the hospital to check on the victims and instructed staff to provide top-tier care.

Meanwhile, the DPO has formed a special team to apprehend the bus driver. Legal proceedings have begun, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
