Next Monsoon Spell Set to Hit Karachi from July 15, Says Met Office

KARACHI – July 13, 2025: Karachi is bracing for its next spell of monsoon showers, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting light rainfall accompanied by winds and possible thunderstorms between July 15 and 17.

While the city continues to experience hot and sunny conditions this weekend, partial restoration of the sea breeze has offered some relief. Weather officials expect the breeze to return to normal by Sunday, bringing with it a chance of light drizzling in the early morning and again later in the night.

According to the Met Office, the upcoming rain system is likely to influence weather patterns across much of Sindh. Districts including Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Hyderabad are all expected to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by wind and thunderstorms during the July 15–17 window, with occasional breaks in between.

Moist currents have already begun entering the country and are expected to strengthen from July 13 onward. A fresh westerly wave is also anticipated to arrive later on Saturday evening, further intensifying the weather system.

Under this system, northeastern and southern parts of Balochistan are forecast to receive scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 13 to 16. The PMD has warned of potential flash flooding in hill torrents, seasonal streams, and urban drains—particularly in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Shangla, among others.

In addition to flooding risks, there is also a heightened threat of landslides in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Murree, and Gilgit-Baltistan due to the persistent heavy rains.

Low-lying urban areas in cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Nowshera, Gujranwala, and Peshawar have also been placed on alert, as heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging and urban flooding.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, while emergency services are expected to stay on high alert throughout the upcoming monsoon activity.
