MQM Founder Altaf Hussain Hospitalised in London After Health Complications

LONDON – July 12, 2025: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has been admitted to a hospital in North London after developing multiple health complications, including increased stress on his heart, sources close to the party confirmed on Friday.

Senior MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi, speaking from London, told Geo News that Hussain was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after falling seriously ill. “Doctors decided to keep him under observation and begin treatment immediately after conducting preliminary tests,” he said.

Deputy Convener of the MQM’s Central Coordination Committee, Qasim Ali Raza, said Hussain underwent a battery of diagnostic exams, including blood tests, ECG, CT scan, ultrasound, and X-rays. He added that the party chief has long been suffering from intense emotional stress, which may have worsened his condition.

“Doctors also recommended and carried out a blood transfusion as part of his treatment plan,” Raza noted, adding that the medical team continues to monitor Hussain closely.

Party sources revealed that Hussain had been struggling with a lingering foot injury that failed to heal over the past several days. Already a patient of diabetes, Hussain’s condition reportedly deteriorated further when he began experiencing pressure on his heart. Colleagues accompanying him acted swiftly to get him emergency care.

“He’s stable now, but his condition required immediate intervention,” a source familiar with his medical situation shared.

This is not the first time the MQM leader has faced serious health concerns. In February 2021, Hussain was admitted to the same hospital’s intensive care unit after contracting Covid-19. He later tested positive for the virus a second time that same year but eventually recovered.

As of Friday evening, party officials said Hussain remains under observation and is responding to treatment.
