In a major move toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital landscape, Meta has officially launched its artificial intelligence assistant Meta AI in Urdu. The rollout marks a significant milestone in making advanced technology more inclusive and accessible for millions of Urdu-speaking users across the country.
The announcement was made at the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The initiative underscores Meta’s growing commitment to supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation through AI education, innovation, and public-private partnerships.
With this new update, users in Pakistan can now interact with Meta AI in both English and Urdu, offering a more natural and localized user experience. According to Meta, the addition of Urdu aligns with its broader vision to break language barriers and bring cutting-edge technology closer to everyday life.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, hailed the launch as a major step forward under the Prime Minister’s “Digital Pakistan Vision.” She emphasized that making AI tools available in Urdu would empower citizens from all walks of life, ensuring that digital progress reaches every corner of the nation.
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the government and academic institutions in integrating AI responsibly and effectively.
“The availability of Meta AI in Urdu will enable local communities to connect with technology in a more meaningful and practical way,” he said.
To further this vision, Meta also unveiled several key initiatives, including an AI Literacy Programme developed in partnership with HEC, NCEAC, MoITT, and atomcamp. The program aims to train around 350 university teachers across Pakistan in AI fundamentals and practical applications.
Additionally, Meta announced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025, an initiative designed to help public institutions adopt modern digital tools and global best practices. The company also introduced a localized version of its guide titled “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” created in collaboration with Deloitte, to demonstrate how AI can improve governance and public service delivery.
By launching Meta AI in Urdu, the company has taken an important step toward building a more inclusive, connected, and forward-looking Pakistan where technology truly speaks the language of its people.
