Major Progress in Pakistan’s High-Speed Train Project

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is set to take a major step toward modernizing its transport network, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a high-speed train project expected to be signed in the coming days. Officials say the initiative will not only transform daily commuting but also ease growing traffic pressure in the twin cities.

The project, launched on the directives of the Prime Minister and the Federal Interior Minister, has gained momentum after a key meeting held to finalize the draft MoU. The session was chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and focused on the train’s proposed route, business model, and the integration of environmentally friendly technology.

It was agreed that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Pakistan Railways will soon formalize the partnership through the signing of the MoU.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Randhawa emphasized that once completed, the project would significantly cut traffic congestion in Islamabad and Rawalpindi while providing citizens with modern, efficient, and comfortable travel facilities. He added that the system will be supported by a feeder electric bus service to ensure seamless connectivity across the cities.

Randhawa further underlined that the project will adhere to international standards and incorporate global best practices, ensuring that residents benefit from a safe, reliable, and future-ready transport system.
