Karachi Set to Ease Traffic Woes with Rs. 1.4 Billion Flyover on Azeempura Road

KARACHI – July 29, 2025:
In a significant move to tackle Karachi’s worsening traffic congestion, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has greenlit a major infrastructure project — the construction of a new flyover on Azeempura Road, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1.4 billion.

The flyover, once completed, will create a crucial link between Shahrah-e-Bhutto and Sharae Faisal — two of the city’s most heavily trafficked arteries. Officials say the project will offer a much-needed signal-free route, particularly easing travel for those commuting to and from Jinnah International Airport.

Spanning around 500 meters, the structure is designed to divert traffic away from the ongoing development zones on Shahrah-e-Bhutto and provide commuters with a quicker, alternate corridor. The project aims to address daily bottlenecks and improve overall road flow in the city’s eastern sector.

The decision was formalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab. During the session, the PC-1 (Project Cycle-1) proposal was thoroughly reviewed and approved. The next step involves sending the plan to the Planning and Development Board for final endorsement.

Authorities have indicated that, pending final approvals, construction will begin promptly — with a 12-month timeline projected for completion.

City planners and transport analysts have lauded the initiative, calling it a much-needed intervention as Karachi grapples with a booming population and ever-growing number of vehicles. Experts believe the flyover will not only shorten travel times but also enhance connectivity between residential areas, commercial hubs, and the airport zone.

“This isn’t just about concrete and steel — it’s about solving real-life challenges for Karachi’s citizens,” said a senior official familiar with the project. “We’re aiming to modernize our transport grid in a way that meets the demands of the future.”

The Azeempura Road flyover is part of a broader city-wide strategy to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic chaos. For thousands of daily commuters, it could soon spell the difference between gridlock and a smooth ride home.
