ISLAMABAD – August 7, 2025:
In a significant development for aviation infrastructure, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has successfully completed a major phase of the runway rehabilitation project at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi—well ahead of schedule.
According to officials, the critical Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) works on the airport’s main runway (07L/25R) were wrapped up on July 30, nearly a full month before the original deadline. The PQC phase had commenced in late December 2024 and was considered one of the most technically demanding segments of the rehabilitation effort.
This early completion was made possible by the deployment of modern slipform paving equipment and continuous round-the-clock work shifts, which kept the project on track despite logistical and operational challenges.
A senior PAA engineer involved in the project credited the milestone to the “unwavering coordination between technical teams and field workers” and emphasized that safety and precision remained top priorities throughout.
In tandem with the runway construction, the installation of a new airfield lighting system has also hit a key milestone, further paving the way for improved operational efficiency and safety at Pakistan’s busiest airport.
The runway rehabilitation project is part of a broader initiative to modernize critical aviation infrastructure across the country, ensuring compliance with international safety standards and enhancing the passenger and airline experience.
