In a daring daytime robbery in Karachi’s Korangi No. 2 area, a group of armed men looted three jewellery shops and shot dead a young jeweller, leaving a pedestrian woman injured.
Police and eyewitnesses said about eight robbers, their faces covered and riding four motorcycles, stormed into the bustling market. Their targets: Faryal Zargar, Al-Aziz Jewellers, and Kiran Jewellers. The robbers held the shopkeepers at gunpoint and snatched gold worth millions of rupees.
During the robbery, 32-year-old Abdul Mateen—son of Abdul Muqeem, general secretary of the local Jewellers Market—attempted to resist and was shot multiple times. A 62-year-old passerby, Sabri Rafiq, also sustained gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to Jinnah Hospital. Doctors confirmed Mateen was hit by three bullets and died from excessive blood loss. He was set to get married in just two months.
Police believe one of the robbers was also injured during the heist. CCTV footage showed the group fleeing through narrow market lanes, carrying what appeared to be a wounded accomplice. Five robbers were captured on camera escaping on three motorbikes, weapons clearly visible.
The incident triggered anger and fear across the market. Shopkeepers shut down their stores in protest, blocked roads, and burned tires, bringing traffic to a halt. Traders demanded swift justice and stronger police presence to protect commercial areas like jewellery markets from future attacks.
