Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has revealed plans for a new corridor along Shahrah-e-Bhutto, aimed at easing cargo movement and providing direct motorway access. The corridor will connect Qayyumabad to Karachi Port, forming a key part of the government’s broader initiative to modernize Karachi’s transport infrastructure and boost economic development.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at CM House, attended by Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and other senior officials. CM Murad described the corridor as a vital artery for uninterrupted heavy and light traffic between the port and motorway.
The project will follow a Design-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DFOT) model and span 16.5 kilometers, including a 10.4-kilometer elevated section from Jam Sadiq Interchange to Karachi Port. This flyover will pass through key locations like Boat Basin, Ziauddin Chowrangi, and East Wharf. A comprehensive traffic study has already been conducted.
CM Murad emphasized the urgency of completing this segment, especially to alleviate industrial traffic congestion from areas like Port Qasim, Landhi, and Korangi. He directed the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) unit to secure all necessary NOCs and finish the environmental impact assessment without delay.
The chief minister also reviewed other major infrastructure efforts, including the Red Line BRT project and redesigning Sohrab Goth Chowrangi. He noted that such initiatives would not only improve connectivity but also modernize Karachi’s urban environment and increase transport efficiency.
