LOS ANGELES – August 6, 2025
With excitement swirling around DC Studios’ upcoming projects, especially following the release of Superman, fans are increasingly eager for news about the future of Batman in the DC Universe. But director and DC co-chair James Gunn isn’t letting speculation run wild—especially when it comes to casting rumors for The Brave and the Bold.
Taking to Threads, Gunn responded directly to several fans curious about the status of Batman’s next cinematic chapter. When asked whether casting had officially begun for The Brave and the Bold, Gunn offered a blunt response: “Nope.” His reply aligns with current production timelines, as the studio’s focus remains on wrapping up other major projects—most notably Supergirl.
Speculation around the franchise isn’t limited to just casting. Another user brought up the possibility of classic Batman villain Hush appearing in The Batman: Part II. Gunn didn’t mince words, calling the rumor “either a total guess or made up.”
Known for his direct and transparent interactions with fans, Gunn has made a habit of stepping in to quash misinformation. While he’s been quick to debunk fan theories, he’s equally enthusiastic when it comes to sharing legitimate behind-the-scenes insights—especially for projects that hold personal significance. Gunn has openly shared that The Brave and the Bold is particularly close to his heart, partly due to the inclusion of Damian Wayne—his favorite Robin.
First announced in 2023 as part of DC’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, The Brave and the Bold aims to reintroduce the Caped Crusader alongside his complex son, Damian. The film, which will exist within the main DCU timeline, has yet to confirm any cast members. While Andy Muschietti (The Flash) was initially announced as director, he confirmed late last year that the film has been postponed.
Meanwhile, fans can still look forward to The Batman: Part II, the much-anticipated follow-up to Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson. The original garnered a robust 85% critics score and 87% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, grossing over $772 million worldwide. Its success paved the way for not only a sequel—now expected in 2027—but also the spin-off series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell, which recently earned 24 Primetime Emmy nominations.
As for The Brave and the Bold, a release date remains under wraps. James Gunn, for now, has one message for fans: be patient. “Let the guy write,” he said, referring to the still-in-development script.
Until then, audiences can revisit Gotham through The Batman now streaming on Max.
