ISLAMABAD – August 6, 2025:
In a major step toward making Islamabad a digitally enabled city, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to introduce a cashless payment system across multiple departments. The move aims to simplify transactions, enhance transparency, and improve public convenience.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. According to an official statement, the new system will allow citizens to pay for services such as property tax, water bills, land transfers, parking charges, and other fees through digital platforms.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized that all CDA services should be made accessible via QR codes and online portals. “This is a key initiative in our efforts to shift from a safe city to a smart city,” he remarked. “Citizens will soon be able to access and pay for services from the comfort of their homes.”
To make the transition smoother, the CDA also plans to launch mobile applications and online systems in collaboration with local banks. In addition, training sessions for staff and awareness campaigns for the general public will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
A major focus of the plan is revamping the existing One Window Facilitation Center, which will also operate under the cashless model. Officials said the center will be made more efficient to accommodate the new digital systems and handle citizen queries more effectively.
A spokesperson for the CDA noted that the initiative is expected to improve financial transparency within the organization while also offering greater ease of access to the public. With this move, Islamabad joins a growing number of cities worldwide embracing digital governance as a pathway to efficiency, accountability, and public service excellence
