KARACHI: In a shocking daylight robbery in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, two housemaids allegedly stole gold and cash worth approximately Rs 30 million after holding a mother and daughter hostage inside their home.
According to police sources, the incident took place in Block 15 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where two domestic helpers, in collaboration with three armed accomplices, executed the robbery with precision. The suspects reportedly entered the house under the pretense of routine work before overpowering the residents.
Authorities said the armed men tied up and assaulted the mother and daughter before looting around 79 tolas of gold, along with local and foreign currency. The culprits managed to escape soon after, leaving the victims in a state of shock.
Police officials revealed that one of the housemaids has been taken into custody for questioning, while a search operation is underway to trace the remaining suspects. “All angles of the case are being investigated, and we are confident the culprits will be arrested soon,” a police spokesperson said.
Preliminary findings suggest that the robbery was carried out with inside assistance, as the suspects appeared to have detailed knowledge of the house and its valuables. Investigators believe the domestic workers played a key role in planning the heist.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of employing unverified domestic staff in Karachi, where several similar robberies have been reported in recent months.
