Govt, Parliament to Decide on Sending Troops to Gaza: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI — Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, has said that any decision regarding the deployment of Pakistani troops to Gaza will be taken solely by the government and parliament, not the military.

Addressing journalists in Rawalpindi on Monday, Lt Gen Sharif emphasized that such a move falls under the jurisdiction of civilian leadership. “The Pakistan Army operates strictly under the Constitution. Any decision of this nature will be made by the government and the parliament,” he clarified.

He underscored that the army remains completely apolitical and focused on its core responsibilities defending Pakistan’s borders and safeguarding national security. “Our priority is the defense and stability of Pakistan, not participation in political discussions or decisions,” he remarked.

Lt Gen Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing position on the Palestinian cause, stating that the country has always advocated peace, justice, and humanitarian support for those suffering in Gaza. “Pakistan’s stance has been clear and consistent we stand firmly with the people of Palestine and call for an immediate end to violence,” he said.

He further added that the Pakistan Army will follow the government’s direction on any future international peacekeeping or humanitarian missions, making it clear that no independent military decision is under consideration.

The ISPR chief’s comments aimed to dispel recent speculation about Pakistan’s potential involvement in the Gaza conflict. His statement also served as a reminder that the armed forces function within constitutional boundaries and under the nation’s elected leadership.

Lt Gen Sharif’s remarks come at a time when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has intensified global attention. By reaffirming the army’s constitutional and apolitical stance, he highlighted the importance of unity, discipline, and civilian oversight in managing both domestic and international challenges.
