Islamabad – July 7, 2025
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has drawn a powerful parallel between the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the historic tragedy of Karbala, urging the Muslim world to abandon its silence and take a firm stand.
Speaking to reporters over the weekend, Asif reflected on the timeless message of Karbala — a defining moment in Islamic history when the family of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stood alone in the face of tyranny. “Karbala teaches us a profound lesson,” he said. “It was a moment of supreme sacrifice, where the Prophet’s family gave up everything for the dignity and survival of Islam, but they were abandoned on the battlefield.”
Turning to Gaza, the minister said the situation unfolding today bears chilling similarities. “Another Karbala is taking place in Gaza,” Asif said emotionally. “Over 70,000 Muslim men and children have been martyred, and yet the Islamic world remains deafeningly silent. Not one of the 58 Muslim countries has risen to protest.”
Asif’s remarks come at a time when Israel continues its relentless bombing campaign on Gaza, with reports confirming at least 78 more Palestinians killed in the past 24 hours alone. Despite the mounting civilian death toll, the broader Muslim world has offered little beyond statements of condemnation.
“Someone must put an end to this tragedy,” Asif urged, his voice carrying frustration and sorrow. “How many more lives must be lost before the Muslim ummah acts?”
While international diplomatic efforts are underway — including a new Israeli delegation headed to Qatar for ceasefire talks — the situation on the ground in Gaza remains dire.
Asif’s message was not just a political statement, but a heartfelt plea — one that echoes the sentiments of many across the Muslim world who feel powerless as the death toll in Gaza climbs and the cries for help go unheard.
