Fireworks Illuminate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Sohail Afridi Takes Oath as New Chief Minister

PESHAWAR — A wave of celebration swept through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday night as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) named Sohail Afridi the new Chief Minister of the province.

Soon after the announcement, fireworks lit up the skies over Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, and several other cities, as jubilant PTI supporters poured into the streets waving party flags, chanting slogans, and distributing sweets. The festive scenes reflected both excitement and relief within the party’s ranks following days of speculation over the province’s leadership.

Afridi’s elevation comes in the wake of former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation a decision made in line with the directions of PTI founder Imran Khan. Gandapur, while stepping down, expressed his gratitude to his cabinet, party workers, and the provincial bureaucracy for their cooperation throughout his tenure. He praised their dedication in navigating the province through difficult economic conditions and persistent security challenges.

Party sources say Afridi’s appointment is part of a broader effort by PTI to inject new energy and direction into the provincial administration. A seasoned political figure known for his steadfast loyalty to the party and grassroots connections, Afridi is expected to continue the PTI government’s reform agenda while placing renewed focus on economic revival, law and order, and social welfare initiatives.

Supporters have hailed the decision as a “fresh start” for the province, expressing optimism that Afridi’s leadership will help strengthen local governance and improve coordination between key institutions.

PTI’s central leadership, while congratulating Afridi, reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparent governance and public service delivery. “Our mission remains unchanged to serve the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with honesty and dedication,” a party statement said.
