ISLAMABAD — Former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has officially parted ways with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), marking the end of his long association with the party.
The ex-lawmaker confirmed that he had tendered his resignation from the party on September 19 while aboard the Global Samud Flotilla. He added that, despite submitting his resignation weeks ago, the party had yet to formally acknowledge or respond to it.
Explaining the reasons behind his decision, Mushtaq Ahmad said that every political organisation operates within certain boundaries, and sometimes individuals need the freedom to act beyond those limits.
“I want to freely raise my voice for human rights, democracy, a free press, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Palestine, and the constitutional rights of the federating units,” he said during the interview.
The former senator further expressed his desire to meet with political and social activists such as Ali Wazir, Mahrang Baloch, and Manzoor Pashteen, while also calling for a fair and transparent trial of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
Reflecting on the emotional difficulty of his decision, Ahmad said the moment he stepped away from the party was deeply personal and painful.
“The night I resigned, I wept the same way I did when my mother passed away,” he shared.
Mushtaq Ahmad’s departure signals a major shift in his political journey one that he says will now focus entirely on independent advocacy for justice, freedom, and human dignity.
